Smart Feeders / Connectivity guide
What happens when a smart pet feeder loses Wi-Fi?
Wi-Fi loss and power loss are different failures. A feeder may retain a schedule on the device while remote controls, status, alerts, video, or account-dependent functions stop—but that behavior is product-specific and must be confirmed in current manufacturer documentation.
When Wi-Fi goes down
The motor may still have power even though the app cannot reach the feeder. Do not assume the schedule is stored locally: verify whether the exact model documents offline scheduled feeding, and test recovery before relying on it.
When power goes down
Without power, dispensing can stop unless the model has a supported backup-power arrangement. Battery presence does not automatically mean every connected feature continues, so check the manual's documented behavior.
What remote features may change
Remote schedule edits, manual feeds, notifications, feeding records, camera viewing, audio, or cloud services can depend on Wi-Fi, the app, account state, and service availability. Avoid treating an app status as proof that food reached the bowl or that a pet ate.
A safer verification checklist
- Confirm where schedules are stored and what the manual says about offline operation.
- Check power and documented backup behavior separately from network behavior.
- Test reconnection, time settings, notifications, and a scheduled meal while present.
- Keep food, cleaning, jam checks, and an in-person backup routine in the plan.
